From the Runway to the Waterway

From the Runway to the Waterway. The Models at Fashion Week Can’t Compete With the Stylishly Decked Out Yachts at the 22nd Annual Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show, February 11-15, 2010

Looking to wear the hottest trends, but not sure you can pull them off? Maybe your yacht can! From the runway to the waterway - yacht designers are finding inspiration from the runways of LA, New York, Milan and Paris to put together fashionably chic looks.

Experts say this coming season in fashion will be all about strong silhouettes, a little bit of tease and sophisticated glamour with a focus on comfort.  See how yachts in this year’s Yacht & Brokerage Show on the Indian Creek Waterway on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach interpret five style trends for 2010.

  metallicsMetallics
  • On the Runway: Shimmering sequins to a subtle gleam, metallics are being used in fabrics and accessories in innovative ways.
  • On the Water: Stainless steel, brass and other metals have always been a favorite on yachts, but metallics have gone to a whole new level with the use of mirrored and reflective exterior paint.  Taking a cue from the fashion set, the new Lazzara LSX92 shines with platinum exterior paint and Christensen’s 160 Odessa sparkles with a metallic superstructure.
sexy backsSexy Backs
  • On the Runway: The back is the “it zone” for 2010 and many designers are creating intriguing looks with unique details and dips in the back.
  • On the Water: Though the aft deck may not be the most exciting part of a boat, Hatteras Yachts has found a way to make the back of their new 60’ MY downright sexy.  Bigger than those found on most motoryachts she features a curved settee on the main aft deck that runs the length of the transom.  A second aft deck design eliminates the standard aft bulkhead and instead uses sleek stainless steal and glass to encase the deck.

  • On the Runway: From watercolor floral prints to bold dashes of color that look like brush strokes, art is the main focus of these pieces.
  • On the Water: Yachts in this year’s show can boast artwork by the masters – Picasso, Monet and even Paul McCartney, but the top pic for artistic inspiration goes to Trinity’s 164’ Mine Games.  The handpainted murals in her salon and dining room create a truly extraordinary interior.
peek a booPeek-a-Boo Panels and Cut-Outs
  • On the Runway: It is all about the tease with this trend --  just a flash of skin all that is needed to be enticing.
  • On the Water:  Argos Yachts has interpreted this trend throughout their Gulfstream 92’ Offshore Performance Yacht, from the modern cut-outs in the dining room chairs to the use of oversized portholes that grace every room from the master SkySuite to the galley and even a mini peek-a-boo hole in the crew cabin.
masculine60’s Masculine Glamour
  • On the Runway: The vintage “Mad Men” look is still in this season but updated with a modern flair.
  • On the Water: No yacht in the show personifies 60’s glam like Sunreef Yacht’s 70 Power Catamaran SEA BASS. Her interior is a perfect contrast vintage looking sleek dark leather and wood contrasted with modern fabrics, glamorous metallic accents and glass.
Fashionable yachts abound at this year’s show so put on your nautical best and hit the docks to find the pefect vessel to fit your style.

The Yacht & Brokerage Show offers free admission to the public and features new and pre-owned yachts ranging from 30’-160’.  Please note: Many of the large yachts require pre-arranged appointments to board. Please contact the individual broker / dealer for more information.
